I was having the same problem ... Long story short I decided to use DLNA option instead...hey presto no stuttering.
If you dont know already its just a case of enabling streaming in network and sharing centre in windows and then specifying devices to share to. no logins or passwords needed.
Thanks! I've tried DLNA (UMS, not the built-in Windows) but Playa isn't able to find it at all. It's seen by Skybox and Deo... I eventually just switched to DLNA+DeoVR (Deo is the only other player supporting passthrough with alpha channel, AFAIK).
Same thing here as of mid-July 2025. Latest version on a Meta Quest 3.7K and 8K videos stutter/buffer every few seconds when accessed over SMB.They all play perfectly smooth over Skybox, Deo and 4X.Your SMB implementation is also very slow to re-buffer when jumping to a specific timestamp. I understand your priority is streaming services, but you have a great product here, good rendering, easy UI and most of all Passthrough with Alpha channel, which is a huge advantage over others (except Deo). It's really too bad this major bug leave out the entire local use case. This bug is a dupe of https://www.playavr.com/forum-1/questions-answers/choppy-unusable-playback-with-vr180-videos-over-smb-network
I was having the same problem ... read your post and saw the smb networking being called out. Long story short I decided to use DLNA option instead...hey presto no stuttering.

I'm having the same problem on version 3.0 with 8k videos on smb. Please fix it.Right now, we’re doing a full network refactor, and the update should be available in mid to late February.
